Fixed Whit's problem for him :)

The article mentions Whit would have a tough job since VT has booked 4 OOC opponents thru 2025. Here's how I would fix it.

Assumptions:
1) ACC goes to 9 games starting in 2018. Can't see it happening earlier.
2) VT will have 5 home ACC games in even years and 4 home ACC games in odd years. In line with rotation needed for the ACC/SEC state rivals.
3) VT will never have fewer than 6 home games in a season.

Guiding Principles:
1) Lose the FCS games. Easy cuts in 2018 (W&M), 2019 (Furman), 2020 (Liberty) and 2021 (Richmond). Probably a buy out... but no fans will care since those games are replaced with an ACC conference opponent.
2) Keep the cool Power 5 OOC games currently on the schedule as intact as possible. Would hate to lose any of them to play Wake, for example.
3) ECU and OCU long term deals will have to be flexible.

2018
home: 5 ACC, ND, ECU
road: 4 ACC, ODU
(lose W&M, but we still have 7 home games!)

2019
home: 4 ACC, ODU, ECU
away: 5 ACC, ND
(lose Furman... and swap @ECU for a home ECU, reverse in 2020 to maintain 6 home games. Not the greatest home schedule, but better than what's currently on the books)

2020
home: 5 ACC, Penn State
away: 4 ACC, Michigan, ECU
(lose Liberty. ECU moved to road game in consideration for 2019. This is the first occasion where we lose a home game - from 7 to 6. Still... nice home schedule!)

2021
home: 4 ACC, ND, Michigan
road: 5 ACC, WVU
(lose Richmond... wow, look at that schedule! Awesome!)

2022
home: 5 ACC, WVU, ECU
road: 4 ACC, ODU
(there was a TBD on the schedule eliminated. No sweat!)

2023
home: 4 ACC, Purdue, ODU
away: 5 ACC, Rutgers
(we will have to move the game @ECU somewhere else)

2024
home: 5 ACC, Rutgers
away: 4 ACC, Wisconsin, ODU
(we will have to move the home game with ECU somewhere else)

2025
home: 4 ACC, Wisconsin, ODU
away: 5 ACC, Penn State
(we will have to move the road game with ECU somewhere else)

2026
home: 5 ACC, TBD
road: 4 ACC, Maryland, ECU
(add the 2023 @ECU game here)

2027
home: 4 ACC, Maryland, ECU
road: 5 ACC, TBD
(add the 2024 home ECU game here)

2028
home: 5 ACC, TBD
road: 4 ACC, Maryland, ECU
(add the 2025 @ECU game here)

Problem solved. There you go. All that is required is:
1) Phase out the FCS games in 2018, instead of 2021... and pay the buyout cost. Hopefully that will be more than offset by having better home games and more income from ACC Channel.
2) Ask our flexible partner (ECU) to restructure a bit. If not them, then ODU.

All of our cool OOC games remain in place! I'm happy to work with Whit on these and other matters if he desires further assistance :)
